Visit to PRDA Donors in Italy |

|
Mrs. Shanti Fernando, Chief Executive of PRDA visited Rome,
Italy from 25th to 5th July 2007. Mrs.
Fernando was invited by the Province of Ferrara in Italy, who
supported the tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction of
houses in Mawella, a fishing village in the Hambantota district.
The support and cooperation from Italy enabled PRDA to construct
35 houses for tsunami-affected families. The
Province of Ferrara (http://www.ravennanotizie.it)
was the main supporter of this aid programme, while
complimentary support has been provided by the people of
Emilia-Romagna Region, the Province di Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna. |

The purpose of Mrs. Fernando’s mission to Rome was primarily to
share PRDA’s experience in post-tsunami construction and
development with donor agencies
that
patronized the work in Sri Lanka and several others who were
interested in the work of PRDA. During her visit, Mrs. Fernando
was able to have several meetings and discussions with her
counterparts and make presentations on the tsunami
rehabilitation work of PRDA. The philanthropists from the
Provinces of Ferrara, Ravenna, Forli, and Biella who made
contributions to the post-tsunami rehabilitation work of Sri
Lanka participated in the discussions with Mrs. Fernando. General
public from Ferrara, Silverplates, Codigoro, Copparo, Goro,
Lagosanto, Massafiscaglia, Ostellato, Ro, Renatico Hill,
Portomaggiore, Tresigallo and Vigarano Mainarda also
participated in the discussions held during the visit of Mrs.
Fernando. .She also participated in
joint press conferences held in connection with her visit. PRDA
extends its warm appreciation to the people of the above
mentioned Provinces and Regions for their generous contributions
and CIPSI (http://www.cipsi.it),
which the main and the long-time partner of PRDA who facilitated
this aid programme to Sri Lanka, vial PRDA. |
